Central office (CO)

Central office (CO) is a phone company’s or communication provider’s local facility where copper local telephone cables (sometimes called the subscriber loop or the “last mile” of cable in telecommunications infrastructure) link to long-haul, all-digital, fiber-optic communications lines.
