Field dependence--independence

Field dependence--independence is the idea that people orient themselves to their environment or field by the use of two distinctly different cognitive styles which are associated with two distinctly different types of personality, field independent and field dependent; the former require fewer visual cues from their field and the latter depend on the visual cues from their field for orientation.
