Game theory

Game theory is a mathematical approach to the study of conflict and decision-making which treats conflict situations as though they were games with set tactics and strategies and totally rational players. Some of the simpler situations studied, like the prisoner's dilemma, have been of interest to social psychologists for models that would generate ideas about social behaviour.
