Geographical information system (GIS)

Geographical information system is a powerful and versatile tools that allow users to generate and process information with a geographical point of reference.

Data input, storage and retrieval, manipulation and analysis, and data output are its four main capabilities of a GIS.

A GIS should not be confused with cartographic system, which merely store and generate computer based maps. A GIS is much more versatile and powerful than a cartographic system
