Hypothetico-deductive method is the accepted method of conducting scientific investigations, first formulated by Galileo in the seventeenth century in which a scientist observes something he doesn't understand, comes up with a tentative explanation or hypothesis from which he can deduce a testable outcome, and sees whether his predicted outcome is verified by observation.
