International Development Association (IDA)

The International Development Association was created in 1960 with country development objectives somewhat similar to those of the World Bank. The IDA aims to reduce poverty by providing loans (called “credits”) and grants for programs that boost economic growth, reduce inequalities, and improve people’s living conditions. Its loan policy is more appropriate for less prosperous nations. However, The IDA extends loans at low interest rates to poor nations that cannot qualify for loans from the World Bank.
