Packet switching

A transmission method that sends packets across a networking medium that supports multiple pathways between sender and receiver, is called packet switching. Transmissions may follow any available path, and multiple packets may travel simultaneously across the network. Thus, packets may arrive in an order that differs from that in which they were sent. X.35 is a common type of packet-switched network.
