Transmission rate

Transmission rate is the capacity of a telecommunication channel; it depends on the bandwidth that is measured as the difference between the highest and lowest frequencies carried by the channel. The greater the bandwidth, the more information can be simultaneously transmitted over the channel. Bandwidth can be classified into three categories: voice-hand, or low speed (transmission rate vary between 300 bits per second (bps) and 9600 bps), medium-band (9600bps to 256,000 bps) and broad-band, or high-speed (256,000 bps to a very large number usually in the billions).
