Agency costs

The cost of agency problems and the cost of actions taken to minimize agency problems are called agency costs. These costs can often be identified by their direct benefit for the agents and their negative present value. Agency costs are found when there are differing self-interests between share-holders and managers, superiors and subordinates, or managers of competing departments or branch offices.
