Behavioral component

The structure of human attitudes can be discussed in terms of 3 components such as affective, behavioral, and cognitive components. The behavioral component can be defined in the following ways:

Definition (1):

It is the part of an attitude that refers to an intention to behave in a certain way toward someone or something.

Definition (2):

Behavior component of an attitude consists of a person’s tendencies to behave ‘in a particular way toward an object.” It is an attitude’s that part reflecting a person’s short-run or long-run intention.

Definition (3):

It is also known as the conative component. The conative component is the manner our attitudes influence how we behave or act. For instance: ‘Jane avoids spiders and screams if she sees one. ‘Or ‘Sharon loves to read books and can’t wait to go to the library.’ Or ‘We don’t allow smoking inside the organization.’ Or ‘Ann is so scared of cockroaches that she won’t enter the room if she sees one there.’

Use of the term in Sentences:

  • The professor is discussing the behavioral component in the class.
  • Alice is preparing an assignment on the behavioral components of attitudes.
