Matrix organization

Matrix organization is an organizational structure where employees report to more than one manager or supervisor.


Matrix organization, sometimes referred to as a project organization structureis a temporarily groups together specialists from different departments or divisions to work on special projects. The matrix organization is a relatively new approach to internal organization, which has received increasing attention in recent year.

The matrix approach is commonplace in aerospace companies where several simultaneous projects require the interaction of engineers, research and development scientists, and other specialized people.
