Pyramid structure

Pyramid or hierarchical structure is one of the popular and traditional organizational structure, in which the chief executive officer (CEO) and the top managers are at the top of the pyramid and non-managerial employees (staff) from its base. Middle managers fall somewhere between top management and staff.

The pyramid structure divides management into three layers:

  • Strategic,
  • Tactical, and
  • Operational.

Different types of information systems are designed to meet the needs of these three levels. The source of information the degree of judgment used, and the time span of the information may vary from one level to the next.
