Visual cliff

Visual cliff an apparatus used to study the existence of depth perception in human and animal infants. The purpose of the apparatus is to produce the optical illusion that part of the floor falls away sharply, to see whether the infant will have the depth perception necessary to be convinced by the illusion and refuse to venture off the ‘cliff’.
