Homeostasis

Homeostasis, the body’s tendency to maintain a steady internal state, underlies primary drives. Using feedback loops, homeostasis brings deviations in body functioning back to an optimal state, similar to the way a thermostat and a furnace work in a home heating system to maintain a steady temperature.

Physiological term for the maintenance of balance or equilibrium within a complex system like the human body or its sub-systems like temperature and oxygen level is called homeostasis.
