imago

In psychoanalytic thought, imago is an idealized representation of a person, usually a parent, which was formed in the unconscious during early childhood. The image remains the same into adulthood where it can have a powerful influence on behavior, especially in providing models for that person to fall in love with and become emotionally involved with in general.
