Payment date

On the payment date the company mails dividend checks to the stockholders and records the payment to the dividend.

Note that payment of the dividend reduces both current assets and current liabilities. It has no effect on stockholders equity. The cumulative effect of the declaration and payment of a cash dividend is to decrease both stockholders equity and total assets.
