Behaviourally Anchored Rating Scales (BARS) are used by organizations for appraisal of employees’ performance and for job analysis purposes. In essence, each job is examined and divided into a number of key dimensions (e.g. customer relations), and each dimension contains a range of statements of job behavior “anchored” to a numerical scale. This BARS analysis provides a qualitative and quantitative comparison of jobs based on the derived behavioural statements and numerical values generated by the process.
