Definition (1):
Secondary needs are the desires and wants that become important when primary needs are satisfied.
Definition (2):
Secondary needs are connected with the desire for satisfaction and pleasure of the human being: designer articles or furniture, the high-tech and the newest cell phone, jewelry, a luxury car, etc.
Offering services or products to any of the above mentioned two needs is totally valid because both the desire for satisfaction and pleasure are needs and give a feeling of fulfillment to the human being on a psychological and physical level. If you can clearly identify your company, services, or products are suitable for fulfilling which of these two needs, you can easily understand how the user will perceive you and how you can present yourself to her/him in the best way.
For instance, a supermarket doesn’t use the same advertising that an IT store uses for its publicity purposes.
Use of the term in Sentence:
- The poor people are not at all concerned about fulfilling their secondary needs because they are too busy thinking about how to meet up their primary needs such as food, clothes, and shelter.
