Significant other is an individual who is most important in the development of the self, such as a parent, friend, or teacher.

Significant other is a person with whom one has an intimate relationship.


Significant other used by the American sociologist G.H. Mead to denote a person who is particularly important to us, especially in relation to our self-image.
