Wheel-of-retailing concept

Wheel-of-retailing concept is a concept that states that new types of retailers usually begin as low-margin, low-price, and low-status operations but evolve into higher-priced, higher service operations, eventually becoming like the conventional retailers they replaced.

The wheel-of-retailing concept seems to explain the initial success and later troubles of department stores, supermarkets, and discount stores and the recent success of off-price retailers
